In the series “Portraits of Women as Trees,” this is the first to include more than one tree, and evokes, for me, the parent/child relationship. Despite the physical separation and difference in style, we are nevertheless intertwined in our roots and branches. Medium: textile.

Second in the series “Portraits of Women as Trees,” this tree is erect and stable, perhaps rigid and stoic in character. In defiance, I dressed her to convey rhythm and motion using repeating colors, curves, and stitching that echoes the movement of her dress—to make her dance. Medium: textile.

Fourth in the series “Portraits of Women as Trees,” this dogwood tree reminded me of a ballerina in an arabesque. Her flowing skirt has flowers in the folds, referencing Aurora's awakening with the kiss of true love, and the coming spring.
