Our small gallery introduces visitors to the wide range of media and styles of 25 Berks County artists. And since the member artists in our cooperative also run the gallery, you may even meet the talent behind artwork you like, right on the spot.

The two-pronged mission of Art Plus Gallery is 1) to give juried, local artists of varied art media support for displaying, marketing and selling their artwork; and 2) to promote art awareness, appreciation and participation throughout the Berks County community in general, and among K-12 students in particular. 

We were founded in 1999 with three goals:

1. Help local artists display, market and sell their artwork
2. Give artists insights into the business side of galleries and developing a career in art
3. Connect the community to art through significant art-related activities.

As a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to outreach, we are funded primarily by the monthly dues of our members, commissions from sales of member artwork, fundraising activities, and the support of the Friends of Art Plus Gallery.

Our member artists each display several pieces of their work at gallery each month. Coordinated through our gallery, member artwork is also displayed at a wide variety of restaurants, clubs and other popular venues in the area.

We are a cooperative of artists representing a wide range of media, styles and levels of experience, yet all of our members share a variety of benefits. We:

• Always have several pieces of work on display in the main gallery, in shows that change every two months. When a piece sells, the artist puts another in its place.
• Are each spotlighted at least once every two years, with a well-publicized “meet the artist” reception and room to showcase dozens of pieces in our Featured Gallery.
• Have the option to participate in solo, multi-artist and all-member exhibits at a variety of restaurants, clubs and other popular venues in the area.
• Have the option to display jewelry, cards, books and hand-crafted accessories and items in our gift shop.
• Give the gallery a 25% commission on sales (most galleries keep 30-50%)
• Share knowledge, techniques and camaraderie with peers.
• Learn the gallery business.

In addition to the monthly membership fee (which is usually no more than $40), each member is required to host the gallery approximately 10 hours a month, and to contribute time and talents to committees, project teams and community events in which we participate.

If Art Plus sounds like a good fit for you, here's the the process works.

1. Send information about yourself, your media of choice, and 2-3 jpg images of your work to [email protected].

2. If it looks like your media and the level/promise of your work might be a good fit, we will ask you to bring five samples of recent work to Art Plus Gallery and meet with our Submissions Director. We can also discuss questions you might have as well as current/potential openings in our membership, which is limited by charter to a maximum of 25 members.

3. Our Submission Director will review your work and tell you more about our cooperative. If it seems mutually desirable, s/he will agree on to present your work to the entire membership at a monthly meeting.
   
4. All members of our cooperative have an equal vote. A simple majority is required for approval.

If the membership is currently full, or if the medium (e.g. oil painting or photography) is fully represented, the applicant may be put on a waiting list, and accepted as a membership opening becomes available. There is no fee for applying for membership or being on our waiting list.
