Classical figurative art is alive, well and thriving in the remarkably talented hands of Marky Barto.
Born and raised in Czechoslovakia, moving to the art-rich Netherlands after high school, and apprenticing with well-known classical figurative artist Eric Armusik in the U.S. since 2018, she has been immersed in classical art much of life.
“Having the opportunity to live in different countries, I found a deep love and appreciation of languages, various cultures, and reflective art,” Marky recounts. “I found sanctuary in local museums and architectural sights that provided some of my greatest inspirations. In particular, classical art has a special place in my heart. The Old Masters always piqued my interest for their themes and narratives on antiquity, love and ethereal beauty. It was something that deeply resonated with me.”
That classical style of the Old Masters continues to be beautifully reflected in Marky’s portraiture and illustrations. The critics agree; since she began showing in 2019, her work has earned a host of accolades including:
