Abstract Artist
An exhibit of Donna Unger’s paintings are like a world tour in imagination. Her palettes nearly cover the spectrum. Her media and styles vary. If you think you see an occasional flash of Cubism, Expressionism or other modernist movement in her abstract art, you also get the feeling that it’s not derivative. That she got there on her own, that each work is an adventure, and the artist is discovering and exploring a new frontier in vision and technique for herself, for the first time.
This versatile, prolific artist has long been drawn to florals and abstracts. Her March 2026 solo show at Art Plus Gallery focused on the latter. "Journey of a Lifetime" showcased Donna’s abstract art as a visual experience–a riot of color, an explosion of textures and shapes in a variety of mediums and subjects. She translates emotions, ideas and experiences into images that stimulate people’s imaginations and draw them back to find something new every time they explore it.
How does she do it?
“My abstract paintings are process-driven,” Donna explains. “I let them develop as I paint and then intuition and experience take over. I let my heart and emotions lead the way, letting my paintbrush go where it wants while paying attention to what the canvas has to say.
“I love getting into the zone. Abstracting the world to see things in a different way is to broaden your vision. It opens your imagination. It allows you to see ideas beyond the visual reality.
“What a blessing it is that I’m still on the journey and enjoying every minute!”
